PROCESS

My role in the project included designing the two main characters, Gloria and Grandma, who are central to the story’s emotional connection. I developed their character designs by focusing on expressive facial features, body language, and clear visual identities that would remain consistent throughout the book. The goal was to create characters that felt memorable and emotionally relatable for readers.

The author had already created a storyboard for the project, which served as the foundation for the book’s pacing and scene structure. I closely followed this pre-made storyboard while transforming each scene into fully rendered final illustrations. This required translating the author’s visual direction into polished artwork while maintaining narrative clarity, emotional flow, and consistency across every page.

I illustrated all of the interior pages of the book, ensuring that each spread supported the storytelling through composition, atmosphere, color, and character interaction. Particular attention was given to maintaining continuity between scenes and strengthening the emotional progression of the narrative from beginning to end.

In addition to the interior illustrations, I also created the cover illustration for the book. The cover needed to visually represent the heart of the story while introducing the main characters and setting the emotional tone for the reader before opening the book.

The entire project was created using Adobe Photoshop, which allowed for a flexible and painterly illustration process while supporting revisions and final print preparation. Photoshop was essential for refining details, creating expressive character work, and preparing the final artwork for publication.
